The Tessellate Institute recognizes that ethnic, cultural and religious minorities do not always have the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways to policy relevant discourses in Canada.
We currently have two research priorities: the History of Muslim Civic Engagement in Canada; and Contemporary Muslim Civic Engagement. Research in these areas will highlight successes and failures in Muslim civic engagement. Muslim communities and Canadian policymakers will be able analyse the data gathered to design more effective ways to enhance Muslim civic engagement in Canada.
Mosque One: Oral Histories of Toronto’s First Mosque is a TTI oral history project that is a multi-media webiste about Toronto’s little known first mosque, containing video clips, and photographic and other textual documents, which allows those connected to the mosque to tell their stories.
