Description: A workshop in professional media training for young Muslim filmmakers, resulting in two short videos
Project Sponsors: Toronto Arts Council, Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ansar Co-operative Housing Corporation
Launch Date: January 2012
The Tessellate Institute organized a workshop in partnership with filmmaker Jawad Jafry, providing professional media training for young Muslims. This was a community development project and our objective was to help foster media skills and promote the civic participation of young Muslims in Canada.
The workshop was conducted by five media professionals with a range of production experience. Participants learned about pre-production, production and post-production as it pertains to documentary filmmaking. The project was designed to expose participants to the film-making process from both a theoretical and hands-on perspective.
The results were two short point-of-view films featuring young female Canadian Muslims.
