TTI is currently working on an academic paper that utilizes audience study methodology to dissect the themes and imagery of Disney’s 1992 film Aladdin. In small group settings, a total of twenty Muslim and non-Muslim viewers were shown the first 40 minutes of the film and asked a series of questions around their perceptions of stereotyping and the movie, and what they understood of its relationship to the Arabian Nights legacy. The paper is set to be completed next year.
